30A – Final Reflection

The experience that sticks out most to be is the entire class to be honest. Throughout the whole semester I had to think critically about what I wanted to do for a business. I went through all sorts of thoughts processes in order to come up with a company that could hit the market now. I am also proud that I was able to do all of the assignments on time and correctly to receive full points. I think I have an entrepreneurial mindset after taking this class. I try ever day to think outside of the box and figure out ways to improve tasks. This has gone into my actual job on campus as well. I try to figure out ways to make the IT department more efficient. The main thing I would recommend for students who take this class is to take it seriously and do the work. All of the assignments teach you something different and new that you may have not experienced before. I believe all of the assignments are tied together to fostering the entrepreneurial mindset. In addition, I would say u

28A – Your Exit Strategy

I think at the end of the 5 years I would be willing to sell the business. I say this mainly because I know I would want to move on to something more relevant to my skill set and my interests. I am interested in health care, but my true passion is for information technology. I would probably form another company that is related to that. If I planned on having children and if the company was successful though, I would consider passing it down. But I think selling it for a large profit would be better since I could use that money for their college tuition and such. I think my exit strategy influenced my decisions with my concept greatly. I say this because I had the mindset all along that this was just a short term project, and that at the end I would try and sell it for a large profit. I think in that short period of time I tried to milk the company as much I could because I knew eventually I would sell it. It probably hindered the growth prospects as well since I felt I wouldn’t

27A – Reading Reflection No. 3

Book : Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX, and the Quest for a Fantastic Future, Ashlee Vance I picked the Elon Musk book because of how impactful and important Elon has been in the last 10 years. He has changed the way space travel is done and made it much more popular. One of the things that surprised me most in the book is how Elon is originally from South Africa. I have never looked into his background before, so this surprised me. I admired how he basically started from nothing and made a name for himself through his first big company PayPal. I didn’t really ‘not’ admire anything he did. I think he is an amazing person and I respect his upbringing. I believe any entrepreneur encounters failure, and that was shown in reading this book. I discovered through this book is that Elon had a ‘never give up’ mentality. No matter how something went he kept pushing forward. If a project failed, he would find reasons to why it failed so he can improve upon it in the future. If it succeeded, h

26A – Celebrating Failure

I believe everyone experiences their own forms of failures even if they don’t show it. I have failed a lot in my life but have learned from my failures and have become a better person because of it. This semester I was taking a lot of classes (17 credits), plus I worked and was involved in student organizations a lot. I ended up not doing so hot in my business finance course and must drop it to take it during the summer. The main thing I learned from this semester is too not put too much onto your plate. It is better to do a good job on smaller tasks than it is to do a bad job on bigger tasks. I must learn to manage my time better and realize when I am doing too much. I am the type of person who accepts challenges, but sometimes you must think before you accept it and make sure you can handle it.

25A – What’s Next?

Existing market: I think the next thing for my service is physically getting it going. There is nothing like my service in the market right now. All three of my interviewees stated that the next step is for me to form the company because others get into the market. The health care industry is changing fast and their will be competitors soon. I think to grow my service in the new market is very possible. There are not a lot of competitors right now, so we can set the standard for prices and service packages. We can start in urban areas and move our way into more rural areas once we get a foundation set. Companies are always trying to find way to decrease turnover rates. With my service they will be able to do this easily because their employees will feel they are cared about more since they will have benefits they did not have before. They will stay with the company longer because they will see them in a new light. New Market: I feel if I targeted an older demographic my c

24A – Venture Concept No. 1

Health care is a major issue in the United States because of the different views from both sides of the white house. One side believes everyone should contribute and share the benefits while the other side believes we should all go out and purchase health insurance for ourselves essentially or privatize the industry. I conducted a series of interviews this semester on the potential market for the company I am forming. Essentially it is a health services company that provides low cost medical benefits (such as flu shots, physicals, vaccines etc.) and health lessons to lead a healthier life. Throughout the semester, I have identified the opportunities, come up with an innovative service and a venture concept to pursue this opportunity and idea.                   A lot of the people I interviewed this semester did not have health care benefits with their jobs and did not purchase health care insurance on the side. The typical employees I interviewed did not receive hea

22A – Elevator Pitch No. 3

1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxbBExknzp8&feature=youtu.be 2. I thought the feedback I received from my last elevator speech was very helpful because my classmates gave me recommendations on how to improve my delivery. I tend to talk a lot when giving presentations because I like to give the full picture of something. My elevators speech tends to be longer than a minute (closer to two minutes). I tried to cut down this elevator speech but still found it hard since I feel I must hit many different points to get my message across. I did not think any of the feedback I got was silly since I love getting feedback on what I did wrong. That is the only way you can improve as a person. 3. Some of the things I tried to improve on is not using as many filler words. I tend to say um and like a lot when I speak when I am thinking. I should just not use filler words and be silent when thinking to not distract the audience and keep them more engaged. Plus using filler words make you se
