Solving The Problem

In my last post I talked about how many states do not require businesses to offer paid sick leave to their employees. I feel there is no perfect solution to this problem since it is a very controversial issue. Instead of passing some form of legislation stating that business should offer paid sick leave, I think implementing a health program would be less controversial and more successful. This program would be a service offered by a company to come in and teach classes about how to keep the workplace clean and ways to avoid the spread of germs. This is less controversial than passing a piece of legislation because the company has the option to buy the company’s services if they wish to improve upon their cleanliness in a workplace. This service could also include a medical professional that can be hired by companies to come in on regular visits to provide medical attention to employees at reduced rates. Since the medical professional travels and does not have to pay for office rent, he will be able to offer lower rates to people who are low on money.

  1. Hey Nick, I think your solution is a pretty viable option and I can tell that you put a lot of thought into what you wanted to be corrected and the easiest, least intrusive way to make that happen. I support your claim about your opportunity and I think that it is a valid problem. Overall, I think you did a great job in finding a good solution that avoids the controversy!

  2. Nick,
I appreciate that you acknowledge there is no perfect solution. This is a big issue that you chose, and I really like the solution that you went with! Sometimes solutions need to try to work around a controversial topic to make any grounds, otherwise there would be a back and forth for too long. It seems like you put a lot of thought into this, good job!

  3. Hi Nick. I thought your original opportunity was definitely a problem that needed to be addressed and this is a really good way to solve it. By having a health program, this could help prevent people from getting sick in the first place and avoid the problem all together. I think having a medical professional come in and give employees care at a reduced rate is a great idea. Good job!

  4. Hey Nick, I really like the opportunity you choose to address. I feel as though you put a lot of effort, into finding a solution. I am not sure how willing companies will be to buy this service when they are not willing to pay for sick days. I feel as though the workers have the unmet need, not the companies. I mean the companies want happy employees. I think you have a good idea and will be able to improve it over time. Great job!
