Idea Napkin No. 1

I have a couple of talents that might be beneficial for my company. One of them being an information systems and operations management major (ISOM). The ISOM program has given me a technical background along with business making me a good people person. I feel this is key when it comes to making a sale or pitch. Another advantage I have it the drive to improve the health care system. For something to be successful you must believe and enjoy what you’re doing.

One of the things I would be offering to customers is cheaper and more convenient health care. This would all depend on what they company is willing to buy from us though. We would have different packages with different sorts of benefits based on price. In addition, we would be offering health related courses that would educate people on the benefits of being healthy and living healthy.

The demographic I would be offering this too are businesses with a large amount of people on minimum wage. Based on my studies, I have found that these people tend to need better healthcare over those in higher paying jobs.

Most of the people I talked to cared about having better health care because they can not afford it on their own. A lot of the people only worked the one minimum wage job or two. A lot of times companies don’t offer health benefits to employees who only work 30 hours a week and on minimum wage.

The main thing that sets me apart from everyone else is that this is a private company. I am not forcing my service on to anyone that does not want it. This is one of the biggest debates in politics right now because people feel they should not have to pay for others and vice versa. I also have advantages to my service such as the health classes that would be taught to the employees.

I feel a lot of these five elements fit together in my company very well because it is in the middle ground of both political parties. I do believe my plan is not 100% proof and needs improvement but, I think with time it will get better. One of the out – of – joint parts in my plan is probably if the government does something drastic with the health care plan. For example, if they just poor tons and tons of money into healthcare so everyone gets it that would be bad for my business. People would be less likely to pay for my services since they already have some form of medical insurance. But let’s say the government takes away a large chunk of money from the health care budget, my business might do flourish. So, it is all dependent on what the government does.

    Hey Nick, I think your idea napkin post is really good. It shows a thought out process on what makes you different, as well as skills and talents that you can bring to the table. I also like how in your last paragraph you sum it all up by including all the things you have talked about as well as your beliefs and thoughts. Overall, I think you did a great job with this post.

    Hey Nick, I think it is awesome you are trying to solve this problem. I feel like the group of people you are trying to help are often looked over. I do think its not good how the government could easily affect your business. Maybe you could elaborate on the idea of providing health classes to the companies. I think your idea has good potential! Great job explaining your thoughts.

25A – What’s Next?

Existing market: I think the next thing for my service is physically getting it going. There is nothing like my service in the market right now. All three of my interviewees stated that the next step is for me to form the company because others get into the market. The health care industry is changing fast and their will be competitors soon. I think to grow my service in the new market is very possible. There are not a lot of competitors right now, so we can set the standard for prices and service packages. We can start in urban areas and move our way into more rural areas once we get a foundation set. Companies are always trying to find way to decrease turnover rates. With my service they will be able to do this easily because their employees will feel they are cared about more since they will have benefits they did not have before. 26A – Celebrating Failure

I believe everyone experiences their own forms of failures even if they don’t show it. I have failed a lot in my life but have learned from my failures and have become a better person because of it. This semester I was taking a lot of classes (17 credits), plus I worked and was involved in student organizations a lot. I ended up not doing so hot in my business finance course and must drop it to take it during the summer. The main thing I learned from this semester is too not put too much onto your plate. It is better to do a good job on smaller tasks than it is to do a bad job on bigger tasks. I must learn to manage my time better and realize when I am doing too much. I am the type of person who accepts challenges, but sometimes you must think before you accept it and make sure you can handle it.
