15A – Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 2

Interviews: Last week I interviewed people about their views on what health care and what they typically do when they are sick. This week I focused more on the reasoning behind people’s decisions. I went to my usual interview location (Oaks Mall) and talked to people who worked in the stores. I found 3 people who fit into my segment and they all had very similar answers. They all mainly explained that price is the number one factor in determining health care. If it is too expensive they just wont even buy it because they do not feel it is worth. If there were cheaper alternatives they would probably be more willing to pay for health insurance because they all saw the benefits of it. In addition, they felt if they purchased health insurance but did not use it to its fullest, it would be a waste of money. They see more sense in just going to a CVS and getting over the counter medication because they know at least it will help aid in their recovery from minor flues and illness.

Conclusion: Based on my interviews, I feel the driving force behind a person’s purchase of health insurance is price. People want to get the most out of what they pay for. If a person does not use their health insurance to the fullest, they feel regretful on the purchase. They feel they could have used the money for other necessities like paying for food, rent school etc.

  2. Hey Nick, I think that your area of focus is extremely interesting. Im doing something kind of similar but focusing more on geriatrics. However, I like that you found 3 people who gave their opinion on healthcare as it is a main topic of discussion in modern day politics. I also like how you concluded all your information and expressed your thoughts of what they said. Overall, I think you did a great job!

  3. Nick,

I'm curious why you chose Oaks Mall instead of Shands hospital when asking about healthcare? I think that Shands you would have equally diverse population because everyone gets hurt or sick.

I never really thought about the fact that CVS may be a substitute for health insurance. I think your interviews went well because you may have been provided new information that will help you out later on as you try to solve their problem.
