12A – Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 1

Segment: The segment I am choosing in my venture’s market are the low-income workers who work less than 40 hours a week or more than one job. Interviews: I conducted 3 interviews with people that fell into my desired segment. Two out of the three interviewees shared very similar needs and said they would like to have my services during the winter months when the flu is more common. They also believed that the place they worked (Walmart) was one of the key reasons they would get sick. They are touching things that hundreds of people have touched a day and feel the cleanliness of the store is not where it should be. The third person said it doesn’t matter what time of the year it is because she is very sick prone. Should would benefit from simple things like flu shots and possible vaccines to prevent illness. Whenever these people did get sick, they simply just took off work and dealt with it on their own. A lot of times they wouldn’t even buy medication because it wasn’t in their b...

13A – Reading Reflection No. 1

One of the things that surprised me most about the by the Wright brothers was how they did not originally begin with planes. They got their inspiration from working on bicycles and other pieces of machinery. The one thing I admired most about the Wright brothers was their dedication to create a piece of machinery that was never seen before. There was honestly nothing I didn’t admire from the Wright brothers. I liked how they saw an opportunity and acted on it. After doing further research online though I found they had a series of plane crashes from 1912-1913 in the army but blamed it on pilot error. I feel if all the planes that crashed were designed by the Wright brothers, it is more than pilot error. The main failures they faced were flight crashes. They never let that set them back though and continued to find reasons why test flights failed. The competencies I noticed from the Wright brothers was their structured routine when it came to test flights and created different mode...

Idea Napkin No. 1

I have a couple of talents that might be beneficial for my company. One of them being an information systems and operations management major (ISOM). The ISOM program has given me a technical background along with business making me a good people person. I feel this is key when it comes to making a sale or pitch. Another advantage I have it the drive to improve the health care system. For something to be successful you must believe and enjoy what you’re doing. One of the things I would be offering to customers is cheaper and more convenient health care. This would all depend on what they company is willing to buy from us though. We would have different packages with different sorts of benefits based on price. In addition, we would be offering health related courses that would educate people on the benefits of being healthy and living healthy. The demographic I would be offering this too are businesses with a large amount of people on minimum wage. Based on my studies, I have fo...

Testing the Hypothesis, Part 2

Additional Interviews: To find people outside of my opportunity boundary, I tried to target businesses that seemed to not offer health benefits. I went to my local mall and asked around at stores such as Hot Topic, Macy’s, Footlocker and food court employees. The two people I interviewed at Footlocker and the one person from Macys both had similar beliefs in that they would like to have better health benefits. A lot of times they work full 40 hours a week shifts between 1-2 jobs but are unable to get health benefits because of what they are payed (minimum wage or a little better). These three people would be considered in my boundary because they would like to see more health benefits attached to their job. Regarding the people from Hot Topic and from the food court (Charly’s Philly Cheesesteaks), they both had similar beliefs in that they do not mind not having health benefits. They both were in their early twenties and college students at Sante Fe. They felt they don’t really go t...

Solving The Problem

In my last post I talked about how many states do not require businesses to offer paid sick leave to their employees. I feel there is no perfect solution to this problem since it is a very controversial issue. Instead of passing some form of legislation stating that business should offer paid sick leave, I think implementing a health program would be less controversial and more successful. This program would be a service offered by a company to come in and teach classes about how to keep the workplace clean and ways to avoid the spread of germs. This is less controversial than passing a piece of legislation because the company has the option to buy the company’s services if they wish to improve upon their cleanliness in a workplace. This service could also include a medical professional that can be hired by companies to come in on regular visits to provide medical attention to employees at reduced rates. Since the medical professional travels and does not have to pay for office rent, ...

Testing the Hypothesis, Part 1

The who: People who typically can’t afford to take off from work due to illnesses. The what: Employers aren’t required by some states to offer minimum paid sick – leave days to their employees to take off from work because they are sick. They why: Because they either make too little money, have kids, single parents or other situations that force them to work while being sick. Hypothesis: I believe that if legislation is passed that requires employers to give a minimum number of paid sick – leave days to their employees, it will increase both the healthcare and insurance businesses since more people will be going in for doctor visits, getting medication, and getting treatments or surgeries. Interviews: In my interview process I tried to add variation to the people I would be selecting. So I went to the mall and went into different types of stores (Macy's, Payless Shoes, and the food courts). I hoped that people with higher income might be shopping in the suit or Ralph L...

Identifying Opportunities in Economic & Regulatory Trends

Economic: Shortage of graphics cards around the globe. While researching graphics cards for my PC build, I noticed a lot of high end ones are hard to come by. The prototypical customer would be either a heavy PC gamer or businesses who require high end computational power. Recently there has been a shortage of high end graphics cards due to the rise of cryptocurrency mining. Cryptocurrency is essentially a digital currency. It uses encryption methods in order to regulate the generating of units of currency and the verification of the transferring of funds among different individuals. When mining cryptocurrency, it requires a lot computational powers. This means to be the most effective when it comes to mining people tend to buy high end graphics cards, which is the reason why there is such a shortage. This issue will cost a lot of money to fix because of the cost it takes to make high end graphics cards. https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2018/01/cryptocurrency-boom-create...
