22A – Elevator Pitch No. 3

1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxbBExknzp8&feature=youtu.be 2. I thought the feedback I received from my last elevator speech was very helpful because my classmates gave me recommendations on how to improve my delivery. I tend to talk a lot when giving presentations because I like to give the full picture of something. My elevators speech tends to be longer than a minute (closer to two minutes). I tried to cut down this elevator speech but still found it hard since I feel I must hit many different points to get my message across. I did not think any of the feedback I got was silly since I love getting feedback on what I did wrong. That is the only way you can improve as a person. 3. Some of the things I tried to improve on is not using as many filler words. I tend to say um and like a lot when I speak when I am thinking. I should just not use filler words and be silent when thinking to not distract the audience and keep them more engaged. Plus using filler words make yo...

23A – Your Venture’s Unfair Advantage

-           My education (human capital) o    Having a degree from the University of Florida makes me more reputable since we are in the top 10 public universities in the US. -           My technology knowledge (human capital) o    I have worked with all sorts of computers and computer systems, so I feel my company would stay up to date in terms of our ERP systems and security. -           My sister (works for health insurance company) (human capital) o    My sister has connections and knowledge in the health care industry. In addition, she is a person I would trust to work with as a business partner. -           My family friend (partner at KPMG – Atlanta) (human capital) o    In addition to my sister, he has knowledge and connections within the health c...

21A – Reading Reflection No. 2

The book I chose to read was Mindset: The New Psychology of Success by Carol Dweck. Her book mainly talks about how your life is determined by what sort of mindset you have on the world. The two main mindsets she talked about was a fixed mindset and a growth mindset. The fixed mindset is essentially things are set and can’t be changed. These can be things such as your intelligence or creativity in things. There is no way you can improve upon these traits through practice. The second is a growth mindset, which are traits and other things you can improve upon with time and experience.   The book improved my experience in ENT3003 and the way I view the course in a couple of ways. One, it made me realize if you are not good at something it doesn’t mean you will fail at it. Nobody is perfect at anything their first go. You must work hard and improve upon your skills to succeed in what you believe in. The other thing I learned is that the only thing that is holding you back is your...

20A – Growing Your Social Capital

I chose my sister as a domain expert in my industry since she works in the health care field.   She has worked for consulting and health care companies her entire professional career. We do favors for each other all the time since we are family so there is no return expectation. Having her in my network is very beneficial since she knows a lot about health care and all the laws pertaining to it. My important supplier in my industry is a family friend who works for KPMG in their healthcare division. He does a lot of work for hospitals and essentially is hired by companies to spearhead their health insurance and to improve the efficiency within hospitals. He will enhance my network because he deals with multiple suppliers in the health care industry. The only supplier I could think of was one of the big insurance companies. But since my company won’t need the resources of such a large organization I think it would be best if we don’t have a supplier and just make everything...

19A – Idea Napkin No. 2

Who am I? I have always been a hard worker. I see everything as a competition and I try to be the best at it. Especially when it comes to technology. I love computers and new technology that play a major role in our everyday lives. In terms of my company, I would probably try to do it on the side from my main job. It is always good to have multiple revenue streams, in case something happens to one of the markets. What am I offering to my customers? I am providing cheap health care needs to minimum wage workers who cannot afford health insurance. Who are you offering it to? My demographic mainly consists of young minimum wage workers (typically 18-25ish). They tend to value health insurance below other things, which hopefully my company can resolve since it would be so cheap for companies to purchase. Why do they care? They care because they would be able to work more since they will be sick less. Plus, they will realize the value of having health insurance has on their ev...

18A - Create a Customer Avatar

The opportunity I am offering is a health care service that problems low cost health care and health courses to minimum wage workers. My prototypical customer would be a 23-year-old mother who has kids. She works more than one job and is a single parent, so all the costs of raising a kid are on her shoulders. Some of her hobbies are sewing and watching old movies with her teenage son. She has two boys (one is in high school and the other is in college). They both live with her and are dependent on her to some extent. They lie more on the democratic side of politics and currently cannot afford their own health care. The youngest child is on the public school’s insurance program while the oldest son does not have healthcare of his own. Similarities:  Some of the things I have in common with this customer is the single mother and being tight on money. I grew up with my mom and we were always struggling to pay the bills, and occasionally I would have to help. We always had heal...

16A - What's Your Secret Sauce?

1.) Human Capital:     - I am a hard worker     - I have an endless supply of cheesy jokes     - I am knowledgeable about technology     - I am very quick on my feet     - I plan ahead 2.) Interviews:     - I was able to interview two of my close friends and 3 family members (my mom and two sisters). Both my mom and one of my friends said I am very determined in whatever I do. That I do whatever I can to succeed. This is for school, sports, and side projects I work on. My other friend said I am very competitive. When it comes to pretty much anything I look at it as a competition, in which I have to win at all costs. My two sisters both agreed that I am a very calm person, but I am not afraid to speak my mind. 3.) Reflection:     - I think the way I see myself and the way others see me are very similar. I for one know I am a very quiet person, but I love to speak my mind. I sometimes take things a little too ...

17A - Elevator Pitch No. 2

1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u8n7rKFGXJc&feature=youtu.be  2. I thought the feedback that was most important/helpful was how I delivered the elevator speech. I have always had issuing talking in front classes/cameras so any feedback on how I can improve my delivery is greatly appreciated. I think any sort of feedback is helpful is becoming a better version of oneself. The feedback that surprised me the most was how much people agreed with my topic. This was mainly because health care is controversial topic between Republicans and Democrats. I did not think any of the feedback I got was outright wrong or unjustified.  3. One of the things I changed based on the feedback I received from my first elevator speech was my deliver. I tried to move around a little more and add more emotion in my voice. In addition, I tried to do more eye contact with the camera since in my first video I was looking at my script for the most part.

15A – Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 2

Interviews: Last week I interviewed people about their views on what health care and what they typically do when they are sick. This week I focused more on the reasoning behind people’s decisions. I went to my usual interview location (Oaks Mall) and talked to people who worked in the stores. I found 3 people who fit into my segment and they all had very similar answers. They all mainly explained that price is the number one factor in determining health care. If it is too expensive they just wont even buy it because they do not feel it is worth. If there were cheaper alternatives they would probably be more willing to pay for health insurance because they all saw the benefits of it. In addition, they felt if they purchased health insurance but did not use it to its fullest, it would be a waste of money. They see more sense in just going to a CVS and getting over the counter medication because they know at least it will help aid in their recovery from minor flues and illness. Conc...

14A – Halfway Reflection

I have always had an issue with keeping up with assignment deadlines, so I made it my goal to do assignments ahead of time. Typically, when I am on campus and waiting in between classes or going to work I write my blogs. This is more productive because I know when I get home I am going to slack off or focus on other classes (like my finance course). I remember when I had my first round of exams this semester I was very swamped with work. A lot of my classes typically have deadlines on Fridays and Sundays. When I was studying, I was debating on whether I should write my blog post for the week. In the end, I just pushed through it because I know at the end of the semester it would be worth it when I get the A. Three tips to being successful in ENT3003 are keeping up with deadline, plan before writing blog posts (because some are very detailed), and don’t think short term. I tend to think of things in the short run and not in the long run. I often regret my performances in class...
